Today you will learn all about brushes for lipstick application as well as eye shadow application. Make sure you don’t miss out on next weeks newsletter, part four of the series as I will tell you about different types of tools such as e yelash curlers, tweezers and eyebrow combs…

For eye shadows …

You’re thinking… brace yourself… But no! It is much easier than it seems. You only need three brushes. One for application, another for blending and a beveled one for finer lines.

The first is used to load the eyelid with the product. Always use small movements and use the flat side of the brush.

The second is used for blending the edge of the eye shadow, which means, not “erasing” everything, just the edge!

And the third, the beveled one, which is cut at an angle, will be used to create any type of line effect or for blending.

Professional Secret:
Always choose eye shadow brushes that are not very stiff or too flat. I’ve been using the same brush made by Mac for 9 years. The number 239 is the easiest to use. I always recommend it to my students.

For the lips …

Although it appears that it’s not, using a brush to apply lipstick is very important in order to make it last longer.

How many times have they asked me… “What can I do to make my lip sticks last longer?” A million!

The answer is as easy as this, use a brush to mix the lip stick with the lip liner. Before that, of course, moisturize the lips very well.
The best are the synthetic-hair brushes that aren’t too thin, in order to be able to mix the textures well and not leave brushmarks.

Professional Secret:
When cleaning, always try to press it so that it does not lose its shape or widen. Many times the hair splits. If this happens, cut the hairs that have come out of place with hair scissors, in order to maintain its shape as long as possible.

WOW!!!  Look at these new Promo Pics from MAC….Gorgeous!!  And they are claiming to be using some really cool new technology, they are calling “water charged technology”.  They also say it has Vitamin C, green tea, and other free radical fighters in the formula.  (read the official blurb below for more info)  I honestly have no idea whether it works or not but I am loving the promotion for these products and the packaging is by far the best I have seen in at least two years.  Such a change from the norm: stark silver.  Yes you read right – stark silver.  Scroll down for pics of the products.  (and I really wanted to write this is in a great silver color but it didn’t work out, so this is what I came up with)

So what do my readers think?  You think this is gonna be worth the hype or do you think it’s just a total 180 from the Volcanic Ash Mask and other Volcanic Body Products?  Hmmm…

I am totally a fan of the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation.  I think we all are….in fact I think that if it weren’t $40.00 everyone would be wearing it.  It literally covers every single line and pour with a fine High Definition look.

So in that vein, I thought since the foundation was so amazing then surely there must be some other great

products from them.  And I am actually surprised I hadn’t thought to check the rest of their products before

since I am a self proclaimed “Makeup Junkie”.  So here are some amazing new eyeshadows that are actually

gorgeous.  And I will confess that most of my “Junkieness” comes from being a MAC Addict, but these

shadows rival any that MAC has produced lately.  Take a look at these and their swatches and tell me

your thoughts.  Or better yet,go out and try ’em out yourself!

Eyeshadows: #304, 34, 302, 168, 93

Basically I am a huge fan of green eyeshadows, they compliment basically every eye color and are hard to mess up. So is it really any surprise that I have five green/teal shadows to show from MUFE?

#304 is a shimmery, chartreuse like green. It’s very similar to #171, and when I purchased it I was a bit crazed and hasty in jotting down all the colors I wanted.  Maybe if I would have thought about it a little more I might have skipped this one. They’re both incredibly similar. I’d say this one has a touch more green in it than the 171, possibly.  This one also has  a little more shimmer, and it is a smooth, well-pigmented shimmer shadow to as well. If I were comparing it to a MAC shadow I would say it most reminds me of MAC Overgrown.

#34 is a soft, pale green with some yellow undertones. This one is not shimmery although it has a kind of sheen that you can see when you look at it through in the light, though it is definitely not matte. Again to use a MAC reference, I would have to say this one is a kind of MAC Juxt eyeshadow, but with a lot less frostiness.

#302 is a medium teal shimmer shade. On my skin this one is definitely more blue than green although not extremely so, and for some reason this one is not as pigmented as many of the Make Up For Ever eyeshadows that I have used. If you compared this #302 to  #168, this is one is definitely the loser, so I would say to skip this one and go for the #168.

#168 is a gorgeous bright pop of teal with a both some shimmer and some sheen. This one is a very close companion to MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow, the only difference being this one is a bit brighter a bit more of  predominate green-teal. This one is a definite frost and has great color payoff.  I think this shadow would last you the longest of all the ones I have reviewed as it is not gonna take much at all to get a great teal color on your eyes.  And as an all out lover of teal I would say this one is a MUST HAVE!!

#93 is a matte, green-teal. It has a medium pigment to it and feels smooth to the touch.  This is one of those colors that you need to build up the intensity by layering it color over color, rather than trying to get a bunch on your brush (hoping to pack it on) and have it end up all over your face because it has fallen off the brush. The layering of this shade will allow you to build up the color smoothly and give you maximum color payoff.  The MAC cousin for this shade would have to be MAC Melody.  Unfortunately, MAC Melody was  discontinued many moons ago.  However now you can grab this one and have it if you loved Melody 🙂

Which of these shades would you pick?  Do you agree with my assessments?

Fashion Friday: Jimmy Choo for H&M!

OMG this is going to be a sellout immediately. Can we get in line now? Jimmy Choo is teaming up with H&M for a lower priced product line. Tentatively dated for November 14, 2009, the line will include shoes, bags and women’s clothing.

US singer Anastacia poses up for photographers in London

Footwear will be in the $99 to $129 price range and will most likely have a few expensive items. Ballet flats will run in the $59 range. Handbags will run from $59 to $299. The news so far is that markets will be limited and the stores have not yet been announced.

I am gonna be first in line for this one.  Can you imagine the fights that will insue over 59.00 jimmy choos???

Typically MAC’s nail polishes dont do much for me.  I mean, if I want my nails done I go to the salon and get them done.  And seriously there is not much difference between a 5.00 polish and these that are over double the price.  I mean really, wouldn’t you much rather have an eyeshadow than a nail polish?

But anyhow these do seem to be pretty colors for whomever loves polish.  And the promotion is great!  Look on:
